Supplier Diversity Policy Statement

The mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) is to provide compassionate, innovative care that improves the quality of life for children and their families. SHC strives to fulfill its mission by combining our core values of innovation, commitment, integrity, teamwork, stewardship and respect in order to ensure diverse, inclusive and ethical procurement processes for goods and services throughout the hospital system. SHC encourages competitive business opportunities among suppliers and contractors (including certified minority, women, disabled veteran, and LGBT business enterprises, whenever possible) and is committed to an inclusive supply chain that values diverse and small businesses.

How does your hospital encourage and seek out minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises to become potential suppliers?

As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, SHC has a duty to be a good steward of all funds it receives. SHC encourages all employees involved in the procurement process to seek qualified, reputable and experienced suppliers and contractors to submit competitive bids and proposals through a request for proposal (RFP) process. SHC engages with its Group Purchasing Organization to review and identify diversity suppliers for products and services.

How does your hospital encourage its employees involved in procurement to seek out minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises to become potential suppliers?

SHC attends trade shows and similar events where SHC collects information from businesses, including minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises, for use in obtaining quotes and bids in connection with potential upcoming projects, or filling needs for equipment, goods and services. SHC procurement staff welcomes and encourages minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran businesses to respond to procurement opportunities at SHC.

How does your hospital conduct outreach and communication to minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises?

SHC is very visible in the communities we serve through involvement in various community programs. In addition, SHC attends trade shows and similar events where SHC collects information from businesses, including minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran businesses and small businesses, for use in obtaining quotes in connection with potential upcoming projects, or filling equipment and materials needs.
