Outreach and Communication
How does your hospital encourage and seek out minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises to become potential suppliers?
Resource, Engineering and Hospitality (REH) oversees the supplier relationship life cycle, including on-boarding, contracting, procurement, and payment processes. During on-boarding, REH identifies diverse suppliers and offers them chances to connect with relevant business owners or mentors for guidance and necessary support. When there are procurement opportunities, Providence actively searches for capable diverse suppliers using various third-party search platforms, ensuring equitable and viable contract opportunities. Furthermore, Providence engages in GPO contracts, urging diverse suppliers to enroll in the GPO supplier registry, thereby enhancing their exposure and reach within other healthcare systems.
How does your hospital encourage its employees involved in procurement to seek out minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises to become potential suppliers?
Providence prides itself on a longstanding commitment to serving our communities, focusing on the poor and vulnerable. We have established internal goals to demonstrate our dedication to this mission by advising caregivers who manage contracts to proactively include diverse suppliers as part of RFXs, contracts, and procurement practices, adhering to our organization-wide policy. Moreover, REH has initiated informative webinars for caregivers at various levels, devised comprehensive communications for both internal and external channels, and established an SDEI Dashboard that monitors accomplishments, conveying the progress and influence of SDEI on Tier I and Tier II spending to executive leadership, collaborative industry groups, and agencies like the California HCAI.
How does your hospital conduct outreach and communication to minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises?
Providence is dedicated to nurturing partnerships with diverse suppliers and has created a resourceful Supplier Diversity, Equity and Inclusion page on our external site for suppliers interested in learning about engagement opportunities with us. If there are questions regarding Providence?s supplier diversity initiative, suppliers may contact us directly at supplier.diversity@providence.org. We also support and participate in various local and national non-profit entities and chambers of commerce that aid in the growth, development, and networking of suppliers. Additionally, Providence is enhancing our outreach efforts by working with our Tier I suppliers to promote the adoption of similar values, aiming to motivate Tier II diverse supplier programs.

4. Certifications and Third Party Procurement
Certifications
How does your hospital support organizations that promote or certify minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises?
Our caregivers connect with like-minded procurement specialists at other health systems to share and spread promising practices. One way we do this is through a nonprofit called the Health Anchor Network, which supports health systems in their strategies to deploy all assets to improve community health and strengthen local economies. One of the priorities of the network, of which Providence is a founding member, is to encourage health systems across the country to participate in sustainable and inclusive purchasing practices. Additionally, we champion various non-profit organizations and chambers of commerce both locally and nationally that help suppliers grow, develop, and network. Providence launched a direct campaign aimed at certification outreach, collaborating with a third-party diverse supplier to motivate current diverse suppliers within our network to obtain an Enhanced Digital Certification free of cost. This initiative effectively showcased a diverse supplier, bolstered additional diverse suppliers, and positively influenced our certified diverse supplier impact.
