Kern Medical is committed to developing and providing access to business opportunities for Women owned, Ethnic Minorities owned, Veteran owned, and LGBTQ+ owned vendors interested in providing business solutions to support Kern Medical in our efforts to deliver safe, compassionate, high quality care, and improve the health and well-being of our community. In collaboration with our group purchasing organization (HealthTrust Purchasing Group) we will increase the utilization of underutilized and underrepresented businesses in the supply chain.

How does your hospital encourage and seek out minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises to become potential suppliers?

Kern Medical’s Supply Chain Management team works in collaboration with our Administration team as well as all departments that oversee high dollar projects including Facility Management, Pharmacy Information services and the Laboratory. We encourage and educate the departments to maintain awareness of and strive to support the development of diverse business enterprises. Additionally, HealthTrust’s Supplier Diversity Program (our G.P.O.) includes ethnic minority owned, women owned, veteran and service-disabled owned businesses in their portfolio. Diverse companies completing a Prospective Supplier Profile and matching a business need are vetted and considered in the competitive bid process.

Our Supply Chain Team works in collaboration to use the resources from our G.P.O. to find potential suppliers.

How does your hospital conduct outreach and communication to minority, women, LGBT, and disabled veteran business enterprises?

Through our G.P.O.’s process, vendors are vetted and notified of opportunities within various categories of spend considered actionable for diverse vendors. Locally we encourage vendor to contact and become members of our G.P.O. to allow them to join the pool of vendors on contract.
