Custom Data Analysis Request Information

The Healthcare Analytics Branch analysts respond to custom data analysis requests. These requests are primarily for aggregate data from the Inpatient, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory Surgery data sets. We specialize in statistical summaries of HCAI data that can be used to better understand healthcare delivery systems and population health and to support planning, policy development, and performance improvement and evaluation efforts. HCAI data customers include the legislature, federal, state, and local government agencies, the healthcare industry, insurers, consumer groups, the media and the general public.
Professional analytical staff provide technical assistance on the uses of HCAI’s data and assist the user in ensuring that correct data and information meets each user’s request.
HCAI analysts cannot provide diagnostic or procedural coding advice.
All data released is aggregate data, and is subject to the CHHS De-identification Guidelines. If necessary, HCAI will suppress small values (cell sizes under 11). Complementary suppression may also be applied.
Custom Data Analysis Request Cost
The cost for a Custom Data Analysis Request is $100 per hour. Custom Data Analysis Request services include consultation, product development, de-identification, and technical assistance needed to produce aggregate data products. Students, nonprofits, and media will receive the first four hours of services at no charge and subsequent hours at the standard rate of $100 per hour.
Requesting a Custom Data Analysis
To request a Custom Data Analysis, log in to the Data Request Portal and complete the online Custom Data Analysis Request form. First-time users will be required to register for an account and then be approved (by HCAI) prior to obtaining access to the request form. After submission, an HCAI analyst will be assigned to your request and will contact you with any questions.

Custom Data Analysis Request Turnaround Time
Most Custom Data Analysis Requests can be completed within three weeks following acceptance of the Agreement of Terms. The Agreement of Terms details the specifications of the data request and is often the result of back-and-forth communication between the requestor and HCAI analyst. As this time may vary greatly for data requests, it is not included in the three-week estimate above. HCAI does not guarantee a specific turnaround time for its Custom Data Analysis Requests.
