This report provides a side-by-side comparison of two selected facilities and the market share changes from 2015 to 2020 for those respective facilities. Additionally, this report shows which facilities patients went to in 2020 for a selected patient Zip Code. These visualizations can be used to:
- Determine if patients who live near the facility go to it for medical treatment or if they travel to another facility for treatment and how it has changed over a five-year span of time.
- Determine where patients from each Zip Code go for hospital inpatient (IP), emergency department (ED), or ambulatory surgery (AS) treatment and how patient utilization patterns have changed in the last five years.
The Market Share Area Map by Facility, 2015 and 2020 identifies market area changes for each licensed healthcare facility from 2015 and 2020. This map identifies market share – where patients from a specific area go to for hospital inpatient, emergency department, and/or ambulatory surgery treatment†. Each facility’s market Zip Code is split into three groups: (1) Market Lost, (2) Market Maintained, and (3) Market Gained.
The Market Share Area Map by Zip Code, 2020 identifies where patients from a specified patient Zip Code went to for hospital inpatient, emergency department, or ambulatory surgery treatment† as selected in the “Setting” filter (darker colors represent higher volume of encounters).
Note†: Physician-owned ambulatory surgery clinics do not report their data to HCAI and, therefore, are not included here.
*Consolidation of facilities that report data may have occurred during the reporting period; use caution when interpreting results. Consolidation occurs when one or more satellite facilities are reported as a part of a parent facility.
Note: Zip Codes with 10% or fewer of the patients in each of the Setting/Zip Code/Facility groupings were removed from the visualization and the accompanying dataset. Only facilities that were open in both 2015 and 2020 were included.
