The Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) announced it has released a new data product under its Health Care Payments Data Program (HPD).

The Health Care Payments Database (HPD) is California’s All Payer Claims Database or APCD,  a research database comprised of healthcare administrative data: claims and encounters generated by transactions among payers and providers on behalf of insured individuals.

As part of the HPD public reporting program, HCAI has released the Healthcare Payments Data (HPD) Measures: Health Conditions, Utilization, and Demographics data visualizations. These visualizations allow users to explore the care and characteristics of Californians within the health system. The four visualizations presented, include interactive data tables, trend charts, map, and statewide comparison charts.

Users are able to display data in different formats to show differences in healthcare measures across regions of the state, changes over time, and how individual groups compare to statewide averages. Filters and grouping options sort information by age group, assigned sex at birth, or location, and highlight the measures of specific populations.

The data displayed in the visualizations is de-identified per the California Health and Human Services Agency’s Data De-Identification Guidelines to protect personal information and protected health information.
