Investments support CHW/P/Rs and the organizations that employ and train them, with a focus on supporting California’s Medi-Cal population. A strong CHW/P/R workforce depends on strong organizations. This effort helps build the systems, skills and resources needed to strengthen the workforce, improve organizational readiness, and expand access to culturally responsive care across California.

Funding supports workforce needs, including training, career pathways, retention efforts, and other supports that reduce barriers to workforce training and professional development. It also helps organizations strengthen Medi-Cal participation and integration into care systems through activities such as billing, electronic health record (EHR) training, organizational capacity-building, technical assistance, and peer learning opportunities.

The work builds on the California Health Care Foundation’s Amplifying Impact model and is administered by Health Leads. Following a competitive application process, selected organizations receive funding and implementation support to strengthen both workforce development and organizational capacity. The majority of funding is directed toward workforce investments, including training, career advancement, retention efforts, and workforce well-being.
