Part 2: Fire Resistance Rated Assemblies
In Part 1 of Fire Resistance Rated Assemblies on May 5, 2022, types of fire resistance rated assemblies were discussed. Part 2 will review protection of penetrations and joint systems, and opening protectives in the rated assemblies. Participants will gain understanding of the protection of the different assembly types and the ability to evaluate what protection is needed. A third class, at a later date, will continue the opening protectives portion and will include information on duct and air transfer openings.

There are several types of fire resistance rated assemblies. The code definitions and sections will be reviewed and examples of the assembly types and where they are used will be discussed. Participants will gain understanding of the different assembly types and the ability to evaluate where a type is needed. A second class, at a later date will include greater information, such as more detailed information on opening protection.

Changes that do not materially alter the approved work, as described in CAC 7-153(b), do not require the submission of an Amended Construction Document. The code requirements and definitions will be reviewed as well as the content of the CAN. Processes, examples and tips will also be discussed. Electrical overcurrent protective device (OCPD) coordination is a method for selecting and configuring circuit breakers and fuses in an electrical system to localize outages caused by an overcurrent condition. Plan Review Requirements for California Energy Code
The requirements of the Energy Code are new to California’s healthcare facilities as of January 2020 and the 2019 California Building Standards Code. The California Energy Commission and HCAI worked together to publish these requirements. This presentation will explain how the California Energy Commission and HCAI view these requirements when it comes to new buildings, additions and remodel projects and how to show compliance with the energy regulations during plan review.

This code section has led to varying interpretations of what is required during a remodel and how the scope of work is defined. This presentation will clarify the confusion.
