Plan Review Requirements for California Energy Code

The requirements of the Energy Code are new to California’s healthcare facilities as of January 2020 and the 2019 California Building Standards Code. The California Energy Commission and HCAI worked together to publish these requirements. This presentation will explain how the California Energy Commission and HCAI view these requirements when it comes to new buildings, additions and remodel projects and how to show compliance with the energy regulations during plan review.

The legal occupancy of any structure existing on the date of adoption of the code shall be permitted to continue use without change. This code section has led to varying interpretations of what is required during a remodel and how the scope of work is defined. This presentation will clarify the confusion. By applying the Remodel CAN to your project, you will have the confidence to properly define the scope of work and what the project will be responsible for updating.

OSHPD PIN 68 clarifies which type of equipment is required to be anchored, restrained, or permitted to be unanchored to meet the functional needs of hospitals.
